Dichotomy
Collaboration Exhibition Design / Curation
Starting as one of many conversations on the drive back from our internship at Pasaquan, Dichotomy was an exhibition curated and designed by Benny Weldon, De'sean Tucker and myself. As former Columbus State University students, we aimed to curate an exhibition that allowed current and former students to showcase their work with local artists.
Showcasing at the Cochran gallery in Lagrange, Georgia we designed the show to be a series of pairs of work. With the wide variety of work selected, the main challenge of this showing was planning the layout. We eventually found that we could loosely group the works into five categories.
Traditional | Design | Paper-Based | Abstraction | Pop art
Since the layout of the gallery is in a horseshoe shape, we could confidently guide the viewer. For instance, if the viewer started on the left hand-side of the gallery they would start with the Traditional works, then move on to Design, then Drawing, Abstraction, and finish off with Pop Art.
Another method we used to ensure a great viewer experience was finding key works that could fit in two groups so that the transition from one group to another was not jarring. The transitional work from Traditional to Design for instance was my pairing of Pastel Series 3 and Pastels Series 4.
